A glimpse into the enamel world.
This is a glass panel, semi Jackson Pollack If I do say so my self LOL As you can see the piece stays pretty true to when I start to the finish. I put in some really good music and go to town. I love enamels, the colors are so wonderful, they get kinda smeary as the heat takes hold. This process takes about an hour Mixing dry enamels to painting then the kiln time is over an hour. Slow and steady wins the pace.

Now Should I cut it? I really want to cut it up for jewelry LOL

If I leave it as panel art I should mention it is kinda skewed not quite squared. So help me decide friends.

I am not a painter nor a writer but do a little of both.

I think of my fused glass as a canvas, a tiny slick canvas at that. For a few years now I have been playing with glass enamels of all sorts. Low fire high fire, powders I mix, premixed enamels and toxic ones to boot. I feel rewarded by the experimentation and I feel lots of people benefit from what I have already tried.

This week I found my self painting on a piece, and asked my self how long it was taking? If I were to punch a time card I might be way in the hole I think. 40 mins into the painting I started evaluating how much I charge for my little tiny wearable works. I also thought about what others charge for what seems to be less effort and quality. I might be under valuing my creativeness? Well, my effort maybe.

When I started fusing 8 years ago, the silver bails you see on pendants were nowhere to be found so all my pendants were made with a channel that was made with fiber paper. The fiber paper does not burn in the kiln therefore it leaves a channel/hole that goes through the glass pendant. It was all I knew when I began fusing, then I discovered wire wrapping and that evolved then came the standard silver bails. I am as usual looking for innovated ways to make pendants look and function different. Early this summer I started making sterling silver roll bails those are nice too and it really steps up the piece since the silver is expensive and I necklaceon2.jpgmake the bails by hand. Within the last few weeks I have been working on a new way to wear the pendants- A no bail alternative to all these other devices.1tubedetail.jpg

This is called the hidden rubber channel. I spent some time wearing and testing the strength of this and have found it to be quite nice, not to mention how great is lays on a neck, plus comfort. I have to say the thing I like best about it -NO BAIL, the piece stands on it’s own like art hanging in a gallery.
